Forecast: Widespread rain brings flooding concerns Monday

AUSTIN, Texas — *A Flood Advisory is in effect for portions of Travis and Hays counties until 5 a.m. Monday.

Already we can see this evenings rain chances becoming more widespread, but the heavier rain will not come until the overnight hours. The heavy downpours could wake up the metro starting around 2 or 3 a.m. The majority of Mondays rain will be over by noon, but additional showers and storms will be possible on the east end into the late evening. 

Commuters beware Monday morning, this rain could result in flash flooding. The I-35 corridor is under and level 1 out of 4 “marginal risk” for flooding, and our far east counties (Milam, Bastrop, Lee, Caldwell, and Fayette) are under a level 2, “slight” risk for flooding. By Mondays end, the far east could see between 2-3 inches of rain. 

Tuesday and Wednesday off and on rains will continue, while temperatures warm back toward average. On Tuesday our central and east counties have been put under a level 1 and 2 risk for flooding once again, as those area could anticipate an additional 1-2″ inches of precipitation.  

On Wednesday rain will continue to move across the region in the first half of the day, and drier conditions are ushered in by the evening. 

By Thursday and Friday much drier conditions return. However, isolated rain chances may return this weekend.
